BENIGN GROWTH REMOVAL

Benign growths, also known as benign tumors or lesions, are non-cancerous growths that can develop on the skin or within the body. While they are generally harmless, there are instances where benign growths may need to be removed for medical or cosmetic reasons.

Blocked glands. Cysts often develop when hair follicles or oil glands become blocked, and leads to an accumulation of fluid, dead skin cells, or keratin protein

Infections can trigger the formation of cysts, as the body's immune response may wall off the infection and form a cyst around it

Genetics play a role, and some individuals may be predisposed to developing cysts

Trauma: from physical injury to the skin can sometimes lead to the formation of post-traumatic cysts

Cosmetic Concerns. Benign growths may be removed for cosmetic reasons

Discomfort or irritation. Some benign growths, such as skin tags or fibromas, can become irritated or painful

Suspicion of malignancy. In some cases, benign growths may exhibit characteristics that resemble cancerous growths

Impairment. Benign growths in certain locations, like on the eyelids, may obstruct vision or interfere

Concern for future changes. Surgical removal may be recommended for a benign growth if it changes over time

Treatments include surgical excisions, shave excisions, laser removal, electrocautery and cryotherapy. Benign growth removal by a dermatologist can minimize scars and prevent complications. Dermatologists are specialists trained to diagnose and treat various skin conditions and to develop a treatment plan.
